WASHINGTON (TNND) — Yyacob, an 8-year-old Belgian Malinois, served the U.S. Army as an explosives detection and patrol dog for most of his life.
Monday marked more than two years since Yyacob last saw U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Payton May, who served alongside the military dog in Iraq.
But thanks to American Humane, which was founded in 1877 as the country’s first national humane organization, they were reunited in Texas just days before Thanksgiving.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to bring military working dog Yyacob home and reunite him with his best friend,” Dr. Robin Ganzert, who is the president and CEO of American Humane, said in a news release. “American Humane is honored to help give this courageous canine the comfortable retirement he deserves after seven years of distinguished service to our country.”
